Jorgensen Art 12 x 12 album | Jane and Jonathan
Sometimes you are looking for something that harks back to other times. Something with the air of craftsmanship about it. Heavy pages, textured overlays, a genuine leather cover beautifully grained (and that smell when you open the box!). Some weddings appeal more to the traditionalist; in which case you can’t really do better than a Jorgensen Art album.
The pages are still crisp and clean, thanks to those flush cut edges and corners. The overlays have a lovely texture to them, giving a lovely tactile sensation when you turn the pages. The photos are expertly printed by Jorgensen’s own lab in Devon, SWCL, with colour so bright and vibrant you’ll barely believe it when you first see them. Can a photo really be that sharp and clear? Can colours really look that good?
That’s what years of craftsmanship gives you.
Designing for a matted album is different to a Fine Art book, as you can see. Rather than working with a complete spread, the design is more like two single pages fitted together, all due to the central divide. There has to be room around a photograph for the overlay, so photos can’t go right up to the central spine or outer edge. Aside from that though, I apply the same rules as with all my designs: applying storytelling, placing images on the layout to best tell the story of that part of the day; aiming for balance and symmetry across the spread as much as possible. Simple but effective rules.
For Jane and Jonathan’s wedding at Adlington Hall, the Jorgensen Art was a perfect choice. A stately home venue suggests tradition, as do morning suits, yet the Olive green cover is a step towards the modern. The splendour of the venue is balanced by the quality of the materials that Jorgensen uses.
